The developers behind the 2014 top down tactical game Door Kickers have revealed an announcement trailer to show what one should expect to see from the sequel. This is good news as it has been a long time since the developers released anything about it.
There was a spin-off called Door Kickers: Action Squad that was released in 2018 but that had a more arcade-like slant.
In Task Force North, players command a Special Operations Unit undertaking operations against a terrorist organisation based in the Middle East. Currently, only the United States Army Rangers are available and the developers are planning on adding more units in future.
Based on what has been released so far and the information on the game’s website, it appears that the developers are building on the foundations of the first game. Gameplay wise, it’ll still be real-time with pause-at-will functionality but with new equipment such as night vision goggles and light machine guns to help in the fight against a deadlier enemy.

Players will also have to contend with RPGs, booby traps and even concealed insurgents, a step up from the criminals that players faced in Door Kickers 1. Another difference would be the ability to choose a Special Operation Unit, each with their own playstyle and abilities rather than having a standard unit like the SWAT team in the first game.
According to the game’s Steam page, Steam Workshop support is also slated to be implemented nearer to the full release of the game and if it’s anything like the first game, we can expect to see a variety of community created mods that add weapons, equipment and gameplay overhauls. With the Special Operation Unit system, there may even be mods that add new units for use in the game.
As a fan of the first game, I’m quite keen to find out more about Task Force North and eventually give it a shot when it launches on Early Access. If you’re interested to find out what the first game was like, you can check out my review for Door Kickers 1.
